Pre-Season Task - Set Your Goals

Time for those updated goals again. The end weight hasn't changed all that much, but the time frame and the realistic-ness of it has. I'm pretty happy with the weight lost in my first round, but feel like I could definitely have done better in my second round. Midn you... it was over Christmas.

Anyway, another 6.5kgs to lose this round. It's going to be hard, but I can do it!

Pre-Season Task - Get Real

I wasn't going to do this task this time around, but then I thought about it and I still get lots of excuses popping up so thought it was worth revisiting...

Here are my excuses and my solutions:

Exercise Excuses

E: I'll do it later
S:You won't do it later. You never do. Stop procrastinating and JFDI. The sooner you get started the sooner it will be done and you can move on to the rest of your day.

E: I can't be bothered
S: Suck it up! Remember how good it feels when you get off your ass and do it.Think how amazing you will look at the end of 12 weeks if you stick to it, and think about how lazy and crap you'll feel if you don't. Get started and it will be fine.

E: I need to do something else
S: Think about it - is it actually more important? Prioritise. Remember: 1. EM Dev, 2. Health, 3. House etc. If the something else is more important then take another look at your plan. Can you rearrange to fit both in? If not choose which to sacrifice, and make up for it as best you can (e.g. if you have to sacrifice a workout, be extra diligent about what you eat).

E: I will be too tired to do something I have planned for later today
S: Prioritise - which is more important? The workout or later activity? Can you do a lighter workout today and be diligent with eating? Can you replan your week to shuffle your workouts or rest days? Also remember the more you exercise, over time the more energy you will have.

Eating & Drinking Excuses

E: I'm hungry
S: Are you really? What have you eaten today? Is it time to eat again? Maybe you are just thirsty or bored. Go have  big drink of water, wait 10 minutes and then reassess. Find something to do - look at your to do list or read 12WBT forums

E: It tastes so good and I just want it
S: Does it really? Does it taste better than looking amazing? How will you feel after you eat it? Can you just take a taste and leave the rest? As pre "I'm hungry" - go drink some water and find something to do.

E: I've done my workout today or the scales showed a good number today so I can eat anything
S: No you can't! You've done the work to make the weight come off. If you eat everything then it will negate all that hard work. Keep going you can do it! Remember how great your tummy feels when you wake up in the morning and you haven't binged. Remember how good it feels to see that weight keep coming down.

E: I need to join in - I don't want everyone thinking I'm on a diet and I'm boring
S: Think about this - will they actually think that? And if they do, do you really care? After all, even if you're not on a diet, you are watching what you eat, and you eat a lot more than everyone else already. And you don't have to drink just to be interesting. People will understand. And a lot of our friends aren't drinking a lot at the moment anyway. Just be yourself and relax, and remember why you are doing this, and what the sacrifice is for. You'll be thankful tomorrow when you're not hungover and you can do your workout!

E: There's nothing too cook
S: Really? Why not? Have you done your planning? Can you do it right now (even if just for tonight) then make a quick trip to IGA or supermarket? Is there anything in the cupboards you can make?

E: I don't feel like cooking or I don't have time to cook tonight
S: Really? Get off your ass and do it. You have a plan - stick to it. And if you don't or can't then scrambled eggs takes less than 10mins and is easy. Look in the cupboards - there will be something to make. This is not an excuse to get takeaways!

E: I didn't make my lunch or I forgot it
S: So? Go get something healthy and small. This is not an excuse to pig out! There is great food within walking distance. And look in your drawer - you have some snacks in there (or you should have), and at worst you have protein powder. Remember how good you feel when you do what you know you should.

And here's how I am going to achieve these goals:
  • Plan my food and exercise weekly, then stick to my plan
  • Limit my red flag days where possible, and where not possible - be sensible!
  • Stick to exercise plan over xmas and don't indulge too often - be sensible!
  • Control the voice in my head which justifies diversions from the plan - don't let it control me!
  • JFDI!

Other Goals

By the end of the round:
  • 30 pushups on my toes
  • 4min plank on my toes
  • Sub 4m 30s 1km run
  • Complete the Manly Dam 10.2 km trail run in Dec, Jan and Feb, and beat my time each time
  • Be feeling like I gave it 100% and I am happy with what I have achieved - not just good enough but amazing!

Pre-Season Task: Get Real

Time to do the pre-season tasks for the next round. I think I did ok last round, but I definitely need to work on the mindset stuff, so here we go...

The first task is to write down all my excuses and my solutions. This is pretty common sense, the trick is remembering all this stuff "in the heat of the moment" and making the right choices. Think I might need to put this somewhere more easily accessible so I can keep referring back to it!

Internal Excuses

  • I've worked out today so I can eat whatever I want
  • If I eat too much I can throw it up
  • I just can't be bothered sticking to my plan (eating or exercising)
  • I'll start over again tomorrow

     Solutions

  • Change my thinking to: "I've worked out today so I'm on my way towards my goals and the scales will say I am lighter in the morning if I don't succumb to my cravings"
  • Drink some water and wait a while to make sure I am actually hungry and not just wanting something
  • Throwing up is SO bad for me, it makes me feel depressed and down about myself and is not something I want to continue doing
  • Eating only gives me shot term momentary pleasure, but in the longer term I feel fat and gross and like I've let myself down
  • Practise mindful eating - don't do anything else while I am eating, focus on the food and taste of it, and learn to recognise when I am getting full - sit at the table and ensure the TV is off and discuss the food or other things with Greg - need to work out how to do this at lunch time too.
  • Tomorrow never comes - start now or risk never getting to my goals
  • Pull out my plan for the week and stick to it!
  • Get out my goal clothes, or look at a photo of me being fat or being thin and think about what I want
  • Read through my goals and these excuses and solutions
  • If all else fails, stop being useless, suck it up and JFDI! I will be so happy that I did!

External Excuses - In My Control

  • I've got other things I could/should be doing which are more important (even though they are not)
  • I'm too tired
  • It's an event so I should eat and drink whatever I want otherwise I won't have fun and other people will think I'm a party pooper
     Solutions

  • Those other things can wait - I've planned for this and I do have time to do it if I get off my butt right now and JFDI
  • I might be tired, but I will be even more so if I don't exercise and eat the right food
  • Doing the right thing gives me a boost, and I'm going to be tired anyway, so may as well be tired and feel good about myself at the same time!
  • Who cares what others think?
  • Remember that I can have fun without drinking and I can say no
  • Remember my goals, and that each thing I don't eat or drink now helps me get those goals and the rewards that go with them

Fitness Test & Measure Up

I enjoyed the fitness test and thought I did quite well considering.  Don't really have much to gauge the measurements against, but taking the photos was NOT fun.  This really brought home to me how much weight I have put on.  Do NOT want to be looking like that in my bikini for the beach holiday with my family over Christmas.  Looking forward to doing something about it!  Can't wait to be feeling and looking amazing!

Say It Out Loud - My 12WBT Commitment

So my task from last week (which I didn't do yet cos I was being lazy) was to make a commitment to myself and others.  I haven't yet told a lot of people, but I am starting now...

So, my commitment is as follows:

I will follow this program for the full 12 weeks and lose 18kgs in the process. I've lost weight before, so know I can do it.  This time however:

I commit to follow through, to not give up and to continue with my new lifestyle after the 12 weeks so I can be fabulous forever!

This is a lifestyle change I want for me...
  • To lead the lifestyle I want
  • To not feel like the fat one in the group.
  • To be able to go shopping and fit into the clothes I want to wear and feel good in them.
  • To go away over summer with my family and feel like I look good standing next to my sister.
  • To be fit and healthy enough to have a baby.
  • To look amazing for my husband.

To do this I will need...
  • To work hard, and then work even harder.
  • To forgo the sweet sugary food I don't need.
  • To get out of bed when I don't want to.
  • To not be lazy.
  • To control my portion sizes.

This is what I commit to.  This is what I want.  And I'm getting excited.  Let's get started!

Get Real - No More Excuses

The first pre-season task was to write down my excuses, and then the solutions for those excuses.  So... here they are...

Exercise Excuses:
  • I'm too tired to get up early
  • I just feel like relaxing and reading
  • I want to spend time with Greg in the evening
  • I don't feel like it
  • I don't have time
  • It's too cold to get out of bed
  • I've had a hard / long day
  • I’ll start tomorrow
Exercise Solutions:
  • Just get up and go and do it
  • Don't overthink it or look for reasons why not
  • Robot mode
  • Go to bed earlier so can get up earlier
  • Exercise in the evening with Greg (go for a walk)
  • Go straight from gym to work = less getting ready time
  • Reduce show watching time in the evenings
  • Reduce Kindle reading time
  • Put the heater on a timer so it's not so hard to get out of bed

Eating Excuses:
  • I'm hungry
  • It tastes so good
  • I want a glass of wine
  • I just want it
  • I'm bored
  • I'm craving something sweet
  • Too hard / not enough time to get something healthy
  • Too tired and can't be bothered cooking
  • Nothing available that I feel like eating
  • Don't feel like going to the supermarket

Eating Solutions:
  • Drink water
  • Go through food diary and look at how good I've been
  • Eat something small and healthy
  • Make a plan
  • Have healthy food on hand for meals and snacks
  • Keep healthy food in my desk
  • Have a backlog of easy meals can make in the evening
  • Make meals with leftovers for lunch

General Excuses:
  • I’ll start tomorrow
  • I’ll start next week
  • I’ve been doing so well, I deserve a day off

General Solutions:
  • Try on goal clothes
  • Look in the mirror
  • Think about Queenstown and xmas and how good I will feel
  • Think about how awesome I can look
  • Think about being prepared to have a baby
